To begin our second session, we played a game called Forbidden Letters, inspired by a novel written by George Perec, called A Void. He wrote the entire book without using the letter e. Then we wrote short, absurd stories in pairs through an activity called Suddenly. We discussed the NaNoWriMo project and very much enjoyed hearing each other’s story ideas. Each writer chose one story idea to begin during individual writing time, and we had a rich sharing session at the end.
To writers: this week, please bring a snack and two books—one that was great and one that was not-so-great, along with some notes in your writer’s notebook about what you specifically found great/not great about each book (very suspenseful, a strong main character you could relate to, vivid details, etc.).
Please let me know if you have any questions.
See you Tuesday!
This is a weekly update from the Writing Workshop program for participating families. Paige will be launching a Writing Workshop blog in Fall 2012.
