Current Programs

Talking Stick Learning Center has offered programs for Philadelphia area homeschoolers ages 4 to 17 since 2006. Currently, we offer full-day programming on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays in three groups: Day Program for ages 4 - 10, Intermediate Program for ages 10-17, and Teen Program for ages 13-17.

Our programming is held in two separate locations at the Awbury Arboretum; Day Program is at the Garden Classroom, Intermediate Program at the Cope House, and Teen Program is held at both the Garden Classroom and the Cope House.

Additionally, we offer supplemental programs throughout the year, like our famous Math Circle and our year-long program Our Whole Lives Sexuality Education for Teens.

Day Program

4 to 10 Year Olds

For participants ages 4 to 10, we offer our original, self-directed, and inter-disciplinary Day Program.

The Day Program is an independent, open program focusing on collaboration, creativity, cooperation, and social growth for homeschoolers. It meets independently on both Tuesdays and Thursdays in our Garden Classroom. Making and Exploring Workshop is offered concurrently for participants ages 8 and up.

Intermediate Program

10 to 17 Year Olds

The Intermediate Program adds topic-based workshops to our core self-directed program for participants ages 10 and up.

Our Intermediate Programs meet at Cope House on Tuesdays and Thursdays providing the opportunity for collaboration with a wide mix of ages. This unique program encourages the growth of peer relationships so critical to this age, and allows choice and individualization during a time that is often a transition for many young people.

Teen Program

13 to 17 Year Olds

The Teen Program offers both topic-based instruction and space for self-directed learning for participants ages 13 and up.

Classes meet at the Garden Classroom on Mondays and Cope House on Tuesdays & Thursdays, where participants learn and collaborate exclusively with teens. With both Classes and Open Studio available, teens develop life skills such as decision making, problem solving, communication, self-management, and critical thinking.

Math Circle

4 to 17 Year Olds

Math Circle is a supplementary Talking Stick program, led by Mt. Airy mathematician Rodi Steinig.

A form of education enrichment and outreach, Math Circles connect mathematicians with students to work on interesting problems or topics. The goal is to get the students excited about the mathematics, giving them a setting that encourages them to become passionate about mathematics.
