Day Program: The Art of Spirals
Tuesday was full of discovery and creativity. Upon arriving the young people quickly gathered around the spiral maker set on the table. Whether it was new to them or not, many of them were mesmerized watching the marker spin, creating spirals on the paper. They began taking turns, choosing marker colors and design ideas. It was fascinating to watch this learning process. By watching the others, the young people were learning how it worked while they waited their turn. When it was time they chose their marker and attempted to place the marker in the holder. I did not offer help as I watched them try different angles and ways to place the marker but I was available if help was needed. The children seem determined and content to do this on their own. They were able to find different ways to set up the spiral maker and were happy to have completed this independently.
I love watching learning through self discovery. With determination and the freedom to try and try again...amazing things can happen.
